Follow along in the music and concert adventures of Andy Gates and Mackenzie McAninch, as fans, managers, back-stage access and friends of bands. In this podcast they tell adventurous, inspirational, comical and at times emotional stories from live performance experiences shared together. Combined they have seen well over 2,000 shows, and many together. Re-live specific shows with stories and sometimes sound bites as they describe their experiences at these concerts, though often from the best seats in the house as they both believe there is no point in ever sitting in a bad seat; usually. Whether they were in the front row of some of the most iconic shows over the past decade, or rubbing elbows with the likes of Jack Black while dressed like idiots at a black tie affair, their stories get asked to be repeated over and over. They’re finally bringing these tales to the tape, with witty and comical banter as these two best friends also argue over almost everything, including their favorite baseball teams as rivals Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. The stories will likely also venture off into stories of their rather checkered pasts as well, so you’ll want to listen along for these details! They’ll explain that the combination of the two of them together at these shows often brings about a magic that simply doesn’t happen when they’re apart at shows. And because of that, together they have gotten to experience moments that most concert goers only dream of. “Those rules don’t apply to me” has been a slogan for Andy for years, hence the naming of this podcast: “Those Rules Don’t Apply To Us.” While typical concert goers usually have average concert experiences, Andy and Mackenzie never settle for that and often push the boundary limits of standards in order to share stories like these. In the Summer of 2018, Pearl Jam played two nights at Safeco Field in Seattle, for the "Home Shows." These shows were fundraisers for the homeless situation in Seattle. Andy and Mackenzie were of course at both shows, and together about 20 rows back on the floor for one of the nights; and Mackenzie crept even closer the for the next show. Listen along as they talk about the strategizing it takes to get tickets and get positioned so close to the stage and what all comes with that, plus give a review of the shows themselves. Also included are rare audio clips from these performances.
This is a two-part series with Part 2 on the way.

Episode #5:Tom Morello, The Strypes
Friday Mar 15, 2024
Friday Mar 15, 2024
This episode focuses on two shows that happened at Seattle's iconic music venue: The Crocodile. First, the guys review seeing Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave) solo in 2018, but then actually end up on stage with him, singing a Rage song with him and more. Yes, you read that correctly. ON STAGE. How in the world did they pull this one off? Listen along to find out and listen to hear them singing!
Part two is about the young but unfortunately now defunct garage rock band The Strypes. A band once championed by the great Elton John, they did a short U.S. run in 2014. Andy was up on it and insisted everyone go to see them, which he and Mackenzie did. Hear their take on it here as Andy shares some great stories of his interactions with the band and his family.

Episode #4: Black Sabbath..... and Jerry Springer??
Tuesday Feb 27, 2024
Tuesday Feb 27, 2024
Black Sabbath went out on a final tour in 2016 so of course Andy and Mackenzie had to go see that one. While the show was entertaining, some of the things that happened in the stands were a bit chaotic. So much so that telling this story somehow morphed into a Jerry Springer story you won't believe and that will have you laughing and you won't want to miss!
